We have noticed quite a large increase in spam memberships lately, both here on this forum and on forums generally.
To counteract this, we have taken several additional measures although we already use the substantial ReCaptcha system anyway along with the IPS spam service.
We have added a simple question and answer challenge with some randomly chosen questions to the registration form that no 'human' would have trouble answering correctly. Only one question is shown and only one has to be answered. Typo's are also taken into consideration so this will not effect any genuine registrants at all.
Secondly, we are also querying the potential registrants email and IP with a large list of known spammers at stopforumspam, this should hopefully counteract human registrations purely for the purpose of passing the account over to an automated bot.
