Climate Change And Airport Expansion

Posted by Andy, 09 December 2009 · 16 views

Been thinking about this (again) , and thought I should write a little Blog entry.

It's pretty obvious we are using the finite resources up at an alarming rate and alternative energy sources are always a good idea. Without getting ( in this entry, at least :) ) into all the regulations to curb emissions I do wonder why there are still plans to go ahead with an expansion / new runway at Heathrow, although I did hear they mentioned doing this at Stansted instead.

I wonder if I am missing the point here :) , we are told to reduce our journeys, turn appliances off stand-by etc and then on the other hand we have endless buildings (public buildings I'm talking about, so paid for by us) lit up outside for decoration and in some cases inside too and these plans for airport expansion. I'll admit not knowing how polluting aeroplanes actually are, although all their emissions (for want of a better word) are straight up in the atmosphere.

I see little need in this country at least for any further airport expansion, if we are that close to maximum capacity then we need to see why we are, not expand any further. I do not see why their should be many internal flights here at least given the comparative small size of the UK, across the pond you need to take a plane or a train to get across the country as it would take days to drive I'd guess...

I'm still no more less confused after writing this :o :o
