Depends on what you really want to write about. Blogs often talks about experiences, recent news or any thing that you really want to talk about.

What yield71 says is true. Popular blogs also fetch great money to the website owners. Programs like adsense and ppc that is pay per click add revenue and monetize these blogs and fetch the owner good money.
