It is certainly one of the more freindlier forums out there in "internet land"

Shame it is so quiet at the moment :asleep:

A quick update for you.

Son number two has now left school BUT thankfully sorted out a fulltime position at Co op first. We are trying to encourage him to use this as a stop gap whilst warning him of the danger of getting stuck in a rut...at least he has finally made a positive decision and is getting on with things. Good on him :applause:

In an attempt to hurry up son number one to find work, after getting the boot from the afore mentioned Co op for unauthorised mark down of ciggies for a friend, we have helped him by advancing the cash to purchase a cheap car (a 1990 diesel VW Golf for £400 that was too good to miss) BUT (a VERY BIG BUT) it stays registered in my name and insured for me only until he finds work. He is under NO circumstances allowed to drive the car unless he can afford to run it and pay house keeping.

We have told him that we will sell the car if he fails to find work soon, or pass it on to his WORKING brother when he is 17 in May. This seems to be working as he has finally applied for some jobs now, one of which sounds very promising.

Fingers crossed things may be turning around :slant:

:D

That sounds like a very good plan with a "reward" as such too.

Hope it all goes well :)

Hi Alex

Son no1 was advised to leave by the store manager as head office had been investigating a lot of "discrepancies" in the stock. In other words they were looking for a scape goat to make an example of and he was silly enough to get caught on camera, therefore "leave or get sacked".

Son no2 is starting to realise that there is a huge difference between a 14 hour contract and a "bit of extra work when I want it" to a full time 37 hour week job. We did try to warn him :winking: but you know what teenagers are like

We should hear back in a couple of days about the jobs Son no1 has applied for, fingers crossed he gets the one he wants

Time for a quick resurection of this thread and let you guys know that both the lazy toads are now working :woot:

The lure of the car was finally enough for son no. 1 to get a job at Waitrose (not the best place in the world but at least he is working).

Son no.2 has been forthcoming with his housekeeping money, good on him and we just hope son no.1 is as quick into his own pocket as he has been with everyone elses. :bored:

The saga with the car continues as son no.1 passed his driving test a couple of weeks ago and his Dad has "lent" him his old car insured via his wife so our boy has now decided he doesn't want the Golf as he intends to keep Daddys car as the git (daddy) has hinted at this to son no.1.

Anyway since son no.1 had his trip to barbados with the school in leiu of his 18th birthday money we have scrimped and saved for them we intend to give the Golf to son no.2 and pay the first huge insurance instalment for him once he can drive, he has his first lesson on Monday...a good day to keep of the road :stunned:
