Charity has several connotations. Money given away alone is not charity. Distribution of note books and text books to the poor students, blood donation, etc can be charity too. There is a misconception that charity involves only money.

In today's materialistic world, money has the reach and power to heal all wounds. It does provide the temporary solace and as such revered as the best charity one can and has to do in their lifetime.

It appears there is nothing like money for the present. History too has seen the great part money has played in strengthening two kingdoms, two families and the couples too!

There are laws now that begging is illegal but hey sometimes I also give money too but it is much better to give things like clothes and such rather than cash.

There is a saying which goes' Charity begins at home' If we are unable to give away to our own kith and kin then where is the question of giving away to the destitute?

There are indeed many different types of charity, and not all of them require giving away any kind of material goods. Even something as simple as holding a door for somebody, or given free advice or suggestions call all be a type of charity. When you have no money or items to spare, there are still plenty of other ways you can help those whom need it.

I find some people teaching the poor boys without accepting any fee in return. What a great sacrifice it is and also can be termed as the better way of charity.

There are even some doctors out there who will see patients completely for free, but I believe that there are certain requirements that the patients would have to meet.

At any rate, that could still be considered a form of charity since you are helping patients at no charge to them.

Helping someone who is in need can be very heart warming and guess what, I recently helped an old lady walk along the street and even though this is small it made my day.

Helping an old man who cannot see letters in a paper by reading out a letter of correspondence is also a kind of charity. The old man will shower his blessings on us. In charity blessings of the elders is the most important gift we may get.
